The Slate Magazine has published a series called “The Crisis in American Walking”. The series addressed the troubling fact that Americans walk less than almost anybody; what scientists learn when they study pedestrians; and how WalkScore has put a number on walkability. The whole series is excellent, but the last article, “How we can become pedestrians once again,” is the best and most relevant to complete streets and to the incorporation into the fabric of our land use decisions, the Comp Plan, and all our transportation programs and efforts.
